Stanley Works Board of Directors Elects Brett Bontrager a Corporate Executive Officer

NEW BRITAIN, Conn., July 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Board of
Directors of The Stanley Works (NYSE: SWK) announced today that Brett
Bontrager, Vice President, Business Development and President, Stanley
Convergent Security Solutions, has been named an Executive Officer of the
Corporation.

John F. Lundgren, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, commented: "The
naming of Brett as an executive officer underscores the significance of his
role and the contributions he has personally made towards the success of
the Company as a leader of one of our key strategic growth businesses as
well as our highly successful business development organization. Brett's
management skills, business acumen, leadership and passion for excellence
are true benchmarks for our organization. We congratulate him on this
recognition of his achievements."

Brett joined Stanley in 2003, with the acquisition of Best Access
Systems, where he held positions of Vice President -- Treasurer and
Director - Mergers & Acquisitions. Instrumental in the successful
integration of Best Access Systems into Stanley, Brett soon assumed a
significant role in Stanley's Corporate Business Development activities. In

the Doors business.

Development for the Stanley Works, and since that time has led all
acquisition activities for the company, including the company's two largest
acquisitions -- Facom Tools and HSM Electronic Protection. Brett's
extensive knowledge and experience in the security industry and his track
record of successfully integrating acquired companies, made him an ideal
candidate to lead HSM as President, Stanley Convergent Security Solutions,
a position he has held since 2006.
