NEWARK, N.J., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Worldwide Flight Services, formerly
known as AMR Services, has been selected by Avianca Airlines, the national
airline of Colombia, to perform ramp, passenger and skycap services for four
Boeing 757 flights weekly at the Newark, New Jersey airport beginning
April 16, 1999. In 1998 more than 32 million passengers flew out of Newark
Airport, surpassing New York's John F. Kennedy Airport in the number of
passengers served.
The two-year contract will create 30 new jobs for Worldwide Flight
Services in Newark. Worldwide already serves Avianca Airlines at the
Los Angeles Airport, providing interline baggage handling services.
Founded in 1919, Avianca Airlines, also known as Aerovias Nacionales de
Colombia, is one of the oldest airlines in the world and one of the largest
privately-owned airlines in South America.
This service contract is one of several awarded to Worldwide Flight
Services within the last few weeks. The company recently added two new
contracts for Delta Air Lines, including cargo services at Miami Airport and
ramp service for Delta at Montreal's Dorval International Airport. Worldwide
already serves Delta at three other airports.
