Content Enriches User Experience by Providing High Quality Technical Papers
and Articles Focused on Software Development

    DENVER, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Rational User Conference --
Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL), the e-development company(TM), today
announced an agreement with the IEEE Computer Society, in which the Computer
Society will provide content from its Digital Library to Rational Developer
Network, a developer portal that delivers targeted content exclusively to
Rational Suite (TM) customers. This is the first time that this material has
been made available outside the IEEE Computer Society membership.
This content will consist of technical papers and articles on the software
development topics most important to Rational users. By bringing together
both licensed and Rational original content, Web-based training, and an online
community of peers, Rational Developer Network provides a single resource for
answers to complex developer questions, enabling Rational Suite users to
improve their time-to-productivity.
Grady Booch, chief scientist for Rational Software, will work closely with
the IEEE Computer Society to select the most pertinent content for Rational
Developer Network users. He will also host Rational Developer Network's
knowledge center, which features IEEE content by providing editor's notes and
other original information to supplement the content.
This agreement will enable Rational Developer Network users to have free
access to content selected from the IEEE Computer Society Digital Library that
is currently accessible only to IEEE Computer Society members with online
subscriptions. Over the next twelve months, Rational Developer Network will
have access to over one hundred papers from IEEE.
"We are very excited to be able to integrate relevant and useful content
from an organization as widely respected as the IEEE Computer Society into
Rational Developer Network," said Dan Shiffman, senior vice president,
Intellectual Property Group of Rational Software. "It is Rational Developer
Network's goal to index, organize, and deliver a wide variety of resources
that enable users of Rational Suite to expand their base of software
development knowledge across the complete software development lifecycle, and
therefore help them create higher quality software faster."
IEEE Computer Society content will be available on Rational Developer
Network beginning in late July 2001. Each article will have a title and short
abstract on the knowledge center's main page linking to an article summary
page which includes an abstract, link to the PDF file, links to the IEEE
Computer Society Digital Library, and author bios.
Over the next twelve months, Rational will enhance the knowledge center to
include additional content that focuses on specific areas of interest to
Rational users. The first section will be available in late July 2001 and
will focus on software architecture.

    About Rational Developer Network
Rational Developer Network is a developer portal that delivers targeted
content to the Rational developer community. Rational Developer Network's
