LEXINGTON, MA USA
DENVER, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Rational User Conference -- The Rational
Edge (http://www.therationaledge.com), an online publication for the
Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL) development community, today announced the
final installment of a four-part series discussing the key approaches that
enable Rational customers to make substantial improvements in their software
development economics.
Written by software expert Walker Royce, vice president and general
manager, Strategic Services at Rational, the series illustrates how software
development teams can realize their full potential and reduce the costs
associated with redesign and reengineering in software projects.
The first installment describes trends in software economics over the past
several decades, and discusses the role of the "COnstructive COst MOdel"
(COCOMO) as a framework for managing software development complexity, process,
teams, and integrated tool automation.
"These articles grew out of Rational's seminars conducted last year for
software executives in cities throughout Europe and Asia," said Royce. "The
main theme was improving economics, and COCOMO offers an ideal framework for
the discussion. In fact, we've built an implementation of COCOMO II that
illustrates the potential ROI that can be achieved through our Rational
Suites(TM) product offering."
The second and third installments discuss the discriminating techniques
that have helped leading software development organizations achieve quantum
leaps in software capability. The final article discusses some of Rational's
key observations in collaborating first-hand with successful organizations, as
well as the patterns these organizations follow in transitioning project teams
to new techniques, methods, and processes.
At this week's Rational User Conference in Denver, Royce will present
"Improving Software Economics," a presentation focusing on the
four discriminating approaches for software development performance: reducing
complexity, improving the process, improving team efficiency, and adding
automation. In addition, Rational is conducting a second seminar tour this
fall for software executives in North America, entitled "Better Software
Equals Better Business: An Executive Forum."
Rational is actively promoting the success many of its customers have
achieved through success stories on its corporate Web site, the most recent of
which showcases General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin and the improvements in
the design and architecture of software being implemented for the U.S. Navy's
next generation of destroyer.
Royce's four articles appear in the following issues of The Rational Edge:
