EGL Eagle Global Logistics Launches Regularly Scheduled Cargo Flights To Baghdad

HOUSTON, July 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EGL Eagle Global Logistics
(Nasdaq: EAGL) today announced the company has introduced regularly scheduled,
direct cargo service to Baghdad. Companies and organizations supporting the
reconstruction of Iraq can now have their products and equipment delivered
directly to Baghdad with EGL's new dedicated Antonov freighter service.
The first AN12F, an all cargo aircraft with a payload capacity of 15 tons,
will depart from Dubai on July 23rd flying directly into Baghdad, and a second
flight will follow on July 27th. Cargo on the scheduled flights is expected
to include construction equipment, additional power generators, portable
lighting units and support materials such as spare parts for rolling stock and
computers.
"This is a market that changes from day to day and it is up to us to react
to these challenges by developing innovative services that provide customers
with reliable and secure deliveries into Iraq's main cities," said Chris
Cahill, EGL's Vice President Middle East and India. "We continue to operate
truck operations into Iraq from Kuwait, Jordan, Syria and Turkey and are
continually monitoring customer demand for scheduled ocean services into Umm
Qasr. EGL is strongly committed to this market and will provide the level of
capacity and modes of transport that our customers require."
EGL expects to operate one AN12F freighter a week from its regional hub in
Dubai into Baghdad. It will increase frequencies or introduce larger aircraft
with more capacity as volumes increase. EGL will feed Iraq-bound shipments
from its worldwide network into Dubai to connect with the Antonov flights.
EGL has already established itself as a leading provider of transportation
and logistics services into Iraq with a series of air charter, sea freight and
ground services into Baghdad, Basra, Kirkuk and Rumala. Shipments have
included nearly 2,500 tons of power generation equipment, delivered by Antonov
124 charters and on board a 2,000 ton barge into the port of Umm Qasr, as well
as 15,000 tons of concrete slabs moved from Dubai to Baghdad for a security
fence in the city. The company also provides import and export compliance
consulting to ensure shipments adhere to all government rules and regulations
at both origin and destination points. When permitted, EGL can assist
customers with all necessary documentation.
EGL has quickly established a strong presence in Iraq and neighboring
countries. The company has opened offices in Baghdad -- where it has a
1,100 square meter warehouse -- Amman, Kuwait City and Istanbul to manage
freight movements into Iraq. As further commitment to the Iraq reconstruction
project, EGL has assigned senior managers in its North America, Europe and
Asia regions to directly oversee business and project development with Iraq.
