GOVSEC, U.S. LAW, and READY!
ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Director of the Common
Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS) will present Common Criteria
certificates on July 29, 2004 at GOVSEC. The certificates are presented by
the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria
Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS).
A Common Criteria certificate confirms that an IT product or protection
profile has conformed to the mutually recognized Common Criteria for
Information Technology Security Evaluation and the Common Evaluation
Methodology, which is the basis for evaluation by the CCEVS Validation Body.
The Validation Body also proves consistency between conclusions of a
testing laboratory and evidence presented during their evaluation. During
evaluation, the Validation Body provides technical guidance to Common Criteria
Testing Laboratories, validates Common Criteria nominations, and serves as
liaison with other nations with respect to Mutual Recognition of product
evaluations.
Common Criteria certificates are given in categories including anti-virus,
PKI/KMI, biometrics, remote access, certificate management, secure messaging,
firewalls, security management, network management, sensitive data protection,
VPNs, and Smart Cards. The NIAP is a U.S. Government initiative created to
meet the security testing needs of both information technology (IT) consumers
and producers. NIAP is a National Institute of Standards and Technology
(NIST) and the National Security Agency (NSA) initiative developed in
accordance with the Computer Security Act of 1987.
The Common Criteria certificates will be awarded in conjunction with
presentation of the 2004 Profiles in Innovation Awards. All awards will be
given in a joint luncheon session of GOVSEC -- The Government Security Expo
and Conference, the U.S. Law Enforcement Conference and Exposition (U.S. LAW),
and READY! The Emergency Preparedness and Response Conference and Exposition.
The Profiles in Innovation Awards honor top government and industry
leaders, programs and organizations from the security, law enforcement and
emergency preparedness & response fields. Recipients demonstrate outstanding
approaches and technical innovations in their disciplines, including physical
security excellence, information security excellence, excellence in
management, law enforcement excellence, physical security excellence,
emergency preparedness and first response excellence, product/service impact.
A Chairman's Award is presented to an individual, organization, or agency that
represents the highest level of integrity, performance representing
distinguished service, and effective solutions with profound results in the
