CHICAGO, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- OfficeMax's "Rubberband Man" is back by

Playing off the popularity of the established character "The Rubberband
Man", played by Eddie Steeples, and his zest to make worklife easier, ad
agency DDB Chicago continues to show "The Rubberband Man" offering supplies
from OfficeMax(R), this time in preparation for school. From the beach to the
pool to the tennis court, "The Rubberband Man" makes his rounds to summer
vacationing kids, reminding them that it's time to start thinking about school
supplies. "The Rubberband Man" will appear in the television ads and in-store
advertising with the campaign tagline "What's Your Thing?"
The 60-second "Rubberband Man" spot, which debuted in December 2003, has
been parodied on "The Tonight Show" and was nominated for a 2004 Emmy in the
"Outstanding Commercial" category.
"The first 'Rubberband Man' ad established OfficeMax as the best source
for business office supplies. These new spots show that OfficeMax is the best
place to go for back-to-school shopping because we have a large selection
year-round," said Dave Goudge, executive vice president of marketing at
OfficeMax. "The 'Rubberband Man' appeals to kids, teens, college students and
parents, giving us a perfect opportunity to make our point in a highly
memorable way."
Teaser ads that hint that the character is on his way back to the airwaves
began airing this week during programs like "The Tonight Show" and "The Late
Show with David Letterman". A new spot called "The Party's Over" will break
July 26 during network and cable programming like "The Today Show", "According
to Jim," "Life With Bonnie," "Extreme Home Makeover" and on Comedy Central.
"Evolving 'Rubberband Man' for back-to-school was a natural," said Don
Pogany, DDB Chicago group creative director. "The new back-to-school efforts
take further advantage of Eddie's talents, as he tries to put a positive spin
on the fact that summer is drawing to a close and the start of school is just
around the corner."
The popularity of the "What's Your Thing" campaign has driven the creation
of a Web sitelet complete with outtakes of the commercial shoot, all ads to
date and downloadable images of "The Rubberband Man" in action. The "What's
Your Thing?" site is accessible via the OfficeMax homepage, at
