LEXINGTON, Mass., July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company
(NYSE: RTNA, RTNB) announced today that together the company and its employees
contributed more than $8 million to the United Way in 2000. Nationwide,
employees contributed $5.5 million to 575 United Way organizations.
Raytheon's top five contributions by geographic region to the United Way
were posted in Kansas, Massachusetts, Texas, California and Arizona. In
Kansas, Massachusetts and Texas, Raytheon and its employees each contributed
more than $1 million to the United Way.
"We are extremely pleased to support the United Way with this year's
contribution," said Daniel P. Burnham, Raytheon's chairman and chief executive
officer. "Our employees are the driving force behind our commitment to the
communities where we do business."
The first installments of Raytheon employees' $5.5 million contribution
are expected to reach local United Way organizations in July and August.
United Way organizations are scheduled to receive the final installments in
March 2001.

executive officer. "Raytheon has long been among our most ardent supporters
and this gift continues that strong partnership as we work to build a
stronger, healthier, more compassionate America."
Raytheon has developed a close relationship with the United Way to build
connections between the company and the community. Raytheon employees support
the United Way by contributing either a fixed dollar amount or a percentage of
their pay via a payroll deduction. In addition, Raytheon contributes
corporate gifts to local United Way organizations in communities where the
company has a significant presence.
"Raytheon seeks to address important social issues through our United Way
contribution," said Carol Ramsey, director of Corporate Contributions for
Raytheon. "Since health and human services needs are so much greater than
our ability to meet them, Raytheon partners with the United Way to make
certain we are effective in meeting the needs of our employees and community."

Kansas
-- Raytheon contributed $1.6 million to 14 United Way organizations
-- Raytheon employees contributed $1.3 million
-- In Wichita, employees contributed more than $1 million to the United
Way of the Plains supporting more than 40 health and human service
programs
Massachusetts
-- Raytheon contributed $1.6 million to 27 United Way organizations
-- Raytheon contributed a corporate gift of $750,000 to the United Way of
New England
Texas
-- Raytheon contributed $1.5 million to 67 local United Way organizations
-- Raytheon employees contributed more than $1 million
-- Raytheon contributed corporate gifts to United Way organizations in
Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Ft. Worth, Greenville, Houston, Sherman, and
Waco
The United Way system includes approximately 1,400 community-based
organizations. Each is independent, separately incorporated and governed by
local volunteers. United Way of America is the national service organization
