GLENROTHES, Scotland, July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Systems Limited
(RSL) has succeeded in winning an Innovation Award for its new Motor Drive
Product Group. In two years the group has grown from an idea to a
commercially viable product for the aerospace and oil and gas markets.
The group has secured three prestigious development contracts, which will
become production contracts worth #2.5M over the next five years. These
include development and production contracts for downhole motor drives for a
Norwegian oil company and programmes in Military Radar and Sensor
applications. The business is forecast to grow to an annual turnover of #2.7M
over the next five years.
Jim Trail, Operations Executive at RSL Glenrothes is delighted with the
success of the Motor Drive Product Group. "The Motor Drive Team has worked
incredibly hard to develop their products and secure valuable contracts in a
relatively short space of time. The products developed rely on the innovative
design engineering skills and proven technology available from our Glenrothes
site in terms of materials and manufacturing processes for power products. Our
recent win in the Fife Business Awards is a credit to everyone involved in
developing this business into what is now a key growth area for the Company."
Motor Drive Products Technical Leader, Barry Widley, came up with the
product concept and has been instrumental during the business development
phase as Lead Engineer. "From my experience in the application areas, I saw
an opportunity for motor drive products for military and extreme environment
applications," explains Barry. "We then confirmed and finalised the required
product specification through discussion with potential customers and existing
market players."
RSL is working closely with USA motor manufacturers, CDA InterCorp, to
provide sub system solutions to customers in the oil and gas and military
markets worldwide. "CDA InterCorp has many years experience in the target
markets for high performance motor applications, and have supported RSL's
entry into the target markets," said Hugh MacPhee, Motor Drive Products Group
Leader at RSL. "We are now working as a team, making joint visits to
customers and have secured a number of key development contracts."
The group's core product suite includes trapezoidal, two phase sinewave,
three phase sinewave and sensorless drives, each available in various power
ranges. These products are based on core functional building blocks which
allow ready customisation for specific customer requirements. Over the coming
years, this core product range will be further enhanced to meet specific
application requirements.
RSL motor drive products allow complete control of motor torque, speed and
position for high reliability industrial and military weapons, radar and
sensor systems applications. The team has the facilities and expertise to
implement all motor drive design, manufacture and test in-house, allowing
rapid response to customer specification.
