Human Code Endorses Macromedia and Intel's Joint 3D Web Technologies; Dynamic Content Highlights New 3D Technology in Future Shockwave Player

    NEW ORLEANS, July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- SIGGRAPH 2000 -- Human Code, a
digital content studio, today endorsed the joint development efforts of Intel
and Macromedia to bring robust 3D graphics to the Web. A future version of
the Macromedia Shockwave Player, enhanced with Intel Internet 3D Graphics
technology, will enable the next generation of bandwidth-friendly, interactive
games, entertainment, and online shopping. More than 51 percent of online
users, more than 130 million people, are immediately able to view Macromedia
Shockwave content without having to download a player. Bringing 3D
capabilities to the Shockwave Player will make it the most widely deployed
technology to deliver interactive, streaming, multi-user 3D content online.
Human Code will display two cutting-edge demos at the Macromedia booth at
SIGGRAPH 2000 this week. The demos highlight the 3D features that will be
available in a future version of the Shockwave Player.
In Human Code's 3D Bicycle Device demo, a user has the ability to "try
out" a computer device for a bicycle, as if he were shopping for the product
in a store. The user can check out features such as Global Satellite
Positioning (GSP) with a variable resolution map screen, and two-way video
communications functionality, both supported by a rotating antenna. Other
features include an odometer, speedometer, clock and timer, and a heartbeat
monitor -- all with an optional backlit display for nighttime viewing. The
result is an engaging, tactile experience via online shopping.
Additionally, a Slot Car Racing demo created by Human Code allows a player
to speed along a slot car track while racing the clock and a computer-
generated opponent. Players can watch their car from a chase camera
perspective or an overhead view as it climbs the track in a child's bedroom,
over a chair, into and out of the closet, under the bed, and through a box
tunnel. This exciting game showcases both the multi-resolution mesh and
lighting features of the Intel Internet 3D Graphics technology in the
Macromedia Shockwave Player.
"Macromedia and Intel are working together to bring powerful 3D technology
to the Web for the first time, and it's great to see developers like Human
Code already realizing the benefits of our efforts," said Diane Rogers, vice
president of product management for Macromedia. "Human Code is a leading
developer of learning, business, and consumer content online, and we are
excited to provide them with a powerful solution for delivering the most
robust 3D content to a wide online audience."
