Users Can Now Render Locally or Across the Internet; Included Free With Every
LightWave 6.1 Purchase ($1,000 value)
NEW ORLEANS, SIGGRAPH 2000, July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- NewTek, Inc.,
(Booth 2117) manufacturer of industry-leading 3D animation and video products,
today introduced StealthNET(TM), a TCP/IP-based render controller that allows
users to render locally or across the Internet. StealthNET, will be free with
all LightWave(R) 6.1 upgrades and purchases, includes unlimited free network
rendering.
"StealthNET is the only TCP/IP based render controller available with any
commercial 3D application, that allows 3D rendering across the Internet," said
Brad Peebler, vice president, 3D graphics for NewTek. "This functionality
combined with Smart Scene management capabilities and other general
ease-of-use features, make this render controller the only one of its type in
the market."
StealthNET is the result of more than two years of development by NewTek,
plus research with top render agencies who provided information about what
they needed to streamline the difficult chore of network rendering. Specific
features and capabilities of StealthNET include the following:
-- StealthNET makes it possible for users to access systems on the
Internet for "global rendering." In addition, users will be able to
set up "render rings" in which systems that are otherwise idle could be
used by other LightWave customers to perform rendering.
-- A Smart Scene feature automatically checks to make sure all systems are
using the same assets. If it detects a difference in files, Smart
Scene will automatically move the appropriate assets to each system.
Smart Scene will also listen to "hints" from users about any
non-LightWave file that might be needed for certain 3rd party plug-ins.
-- TCP/IP-based rendering allows systems outside of the user's intranet to
be pulled into the render farm. As a result, users can easily include
or exclude systems based on each system's IP number.
-- StealthNET will create thumbnails of rendered images to the render
controller can view the images rendered on a per-system basis from the
StealthNET controller.
-- Render tiling allows frames to be split across multiple systems, or for
an animation to be sent across the render farm at a single frame per
system.
-- StealthNET handles frame collection and network traffic management by
automatically collecting all rendered frames and reassigning any missed
frames that occur as a result of node crashes. At the same time,
StealthNET will monitor network traffic to ensure that the controller
system is not overwhelmed with data throughput.
Price and Availability
StealthNET will be free with every purchase of or upgrade to LightWave
6.1, beginning late in Q3 2000.
