NewTek and Hypercosm Partner to Add One Button Web Export to LightWave [6]; Hypercosm WaveLink Premiers at SIGGRAPH - to Be Distributed By NewTek

    NEW ORLEANS, July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- SIGGRAPH -- NewTek, a leading
provider of 3D animation and video production tools and Hypercosm, Inc., a
leading provider of 3D simulation infrastructure for the Internet, today
announced they have entered into a strategic partnership. Kicking off the
relationship, Hypercosm announced Hypercosm WaveLink, a LightWave [6] plug-in
which turns LightWave [6] scenes directly into ultra-small platform
independent Web applets.
NewTek will begin distributing Hypercosm WaveLink and other Hypercosm Web
3D tools in the near future. These will also be available for free download
from NewTek and Hypercosm web sites.
"Hypercosm is pleased to join with NewTek in accelerating the uptake of 3D
onto the Web," said Hypercosm, Inc. founder and CEO Abe Megahed. "Our small
file size and completely programmable interactivity coupled with LightWave's
award winning modeling ease will make a powerful combination," he added.
Brad Peebler, vice president of 3D graphics tools for NewTek, said, "We
are very excited to be working with such an innovative company. NewTek is
very focused on web 3D and Hypercosm is an excellent partner to work with to
provide LightWave users an efficient, seamless method for creating web 3D
content."
Hypercosm WaveLink translates all LightWave objects, object names,
hierarchies, positions, rotations, scales, basic material colors, lights, and
cameras. All textures are automatically collected and translated into JPEG
format and UV mapping coordinates are translated. In short, what you see in
LightWave is in most cases very close to what you get on the Web under
Windows, MacOS and GNU / Linux.
Hypercosm WaveLink can also emit OMAR (Object oriented Modeling, Animation
and Rendering) source code capturing the Lightwave scene. Once in OMAR source
code, codes can be combined to produce arbitrarily sophisticated online games,
educational pieces, and customer care simulations. OMAR programs are compiled
using Hypercosm Studio, of which versions are available for Windows and GNU /
Linux. Compiled OMAR programs, called Hypercosm applets, are platform
independent and can be played either stand-alone or within a web browser.
Players, which execute Hypercosm applets, exist for Windows 95, 98, NT and
2000, Mac OS, and GNU / Linux.
