Mobile Devices and Applications, Lightweight Notebooks, and Storage
Applications Were Hot at Annual Technology Event
NEW YORK, July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Sleek new laptops, USB, DVD, and mobile
computing were among the major highlights of the 19th annual PC EXPO. The
event, now part of CMP Media's Technology Exchange Week New York (TECHXNY),
was held June 26-28, 2001, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New
York City, and featured 500 exhibitors and 50,000 business computing
executives, resellers/solutions integrators, analysts and press.
Besides PC EXPO, the other exciting components of TECHXNY
(http://www.techxny.com) included the IT Innovation Conference, First Look,
Solutions Integrator Think Tech, Finance Exchange, Novell's Best of
Brainshare, SAN Summit and other special events. The Keynotes were presented
by Carl Yankowski, CEO, Palm Inc., speaking on "Handheld Computing: Grass
Roots to Corporate Standard;" Michael Splinter, Executive Vice President,
Intel, addressing "New Priorities, New Solutions;" and
David Gelernter, Chief Scientist, Mirror Worlds Technology delivering a speech
entitled, "Living in a Distributed World: Mobile Communicating & The PC."
"Despite the fact that the industry is in the middle of an economic
downturn, TECHXNY/PC EXPO was an exciting event. All the major IT players
were present and serious buying and networking was taking place on the show
floor," said Christina Condos, Show Director, TECHXNY/PC EXPO.
Premiering at TECHXNY/PC EXPO, "Working Woman's" W.E.S.T Awards (Women
Elevating Science and Technology) recognized five outstanding women in
technology. In addition, WITI, Women in Technology International, presented a
program featuring extraordinarily successful women in technology committed to
the advancement of women in the industry.
Companies who exhibited and announced new products at PC EXPO included
AMD, Adobe Systems, Compaq, Fujitsu, Handspring, HP, Gateway, IBM, Intel,
Iomega, Kodak, Microsoft, Motorola, Novell, Palm, Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba,
Transmeta, and Xerox. Other companies who announced new products included
Maxtor, PC-Ephone, Perseus, RIM, and Ztrace.
For the second year, the CNET Best of Show Awards at PC EXPO recognized
the hottest, most innovative and most influential products at the event.
Winners included Panasonic's DVD Video Recorder, QPS Superdrive, USB 2.0,
AppForge 2.0, GoAmerica Mobile Office, and Fujitsu Loox.
The IT Innovation Conference targeted the trends and technologies that
promote business growth and profitability. Popular session topics included
security, leveraging ASP solutions, deploying mobile/wireless and enhancing
infrastructure. In addition, special "summits" on SANs and clustering
technology and the exclusive "Best of Novell Brainshare," drew strong
attendance.
Next year, PC EXPO celebrates its 20th anniversary, June 25-27, 2002, and
CMP Media LLC has exciting plans for this milestone event. For more on
