Texans Offensive Lineman Chester Pitts to Serve as Sports Spokesperson for Statewide Energy Efficiency Campaign

Pitts, Texans Staff Join Reliant Energy to Drive Compact Fluorescent Light
                                Conversions

HOUSTON, July 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Reliant Energy today
announced that Houston Texans lineman Chester Pitts will serve as the
sports spokesperson for the Compact With Texas (CWT) energy efficiency
campaign, designed to get more Texans to use energy-saving compact
fluorescent lights (CFLs).
Pitts held a news conference at his home today in Pearland, Texas,
where he signed the CWT pledge and discussed how he has recently converted
the 81 incandescent light bulbs in his home to CFLs. Launched on Earth Day
this year, the Reliant Energy Compact with Texas urges Texans to make a
home energy efficiency improvement that almost anyone can accomplish: a
switch from incandescent bulbs to more energy efficient CFLs.
The Compact With Texas pledge reads: "I pledge to create a better Texas
for tomorrow by switching at least one incandescent light bulb in my home
to an ENERGY STAR(R)-qualified compact fluorescent bulb this year." CFLs
save an average of $30 in energy costs over the life of the bulb and use up
to 75 percent less energy than standard, incandescent bulbs. The general
public wishing to take the pledge can do so at
http://www.reliant.com/compactwithtexas.
Pitts signed the CWT pledge on behalf of the Texans players and John
Vidalin, Texans vice president of Sales and Marketing, signed on behalf of
the Texans staff. Vidalin said he would work to get 100 percent of the
Texans staff to take the pledge prior to the Saturday, Aug. 25 preseason
game between the Texans and the Dallas Cowboys. During that game, Reliant
Energy will distribute 2,500 free CFLs to Texans fans who sign the CWT
pledge onsite.
"It doesn't take a lot of effort or money to switch at least one bulb
in your home to an ENERGY STAR-qualified compact fluorescent -- and they
last longer and produce less heat," Pitts said. "Through the Compact With
Texas and my work with Reliant Energy, I want all Texans to know they have
a role in protecting the environment and conserving energy, and a switch to
CFLs is a simple, cost-effective place to start."
"We are proud to work with our community partners -- the Houston Texans
and Chester Pitts -- to create more awareness about the Compact With Texas
and the use of energy efficient CFLs," said Janie Mitcham, Reliant Energy
senior vice president of Smart Energy. "Our customers are looking for ways
to be more environmentally conscious while at the same time conserve energy
and lower their electricity bills."
Anyone signing the CWT pledge also is supporting the national ENERGY
STAR Change a Light/Change the World Campaign, organized in 2006 by the
U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. Reliant
Energy is a national ENERGY STAR Partner in promoting the use of energy
efficient products and energy saving measures.
