MATTHEWS, N.C., July 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Family Dollar Stores,
Inc. (NYSE: FDO) announced today that Robert George will be joining the
Company as Executive Vice President - Chief Merchandising Officer.
In making this announcement, Howard R. Levine, Chairman and Chief

Mr. George has been with Staples, Inc. since 1986, where he most recently
held the position of Senior Vice President, General Merchandise Manager -
Office Products and was responsible for a 26-member merchandise team sourcing
products representing over 50% of Staples' product assortment. He began his
career with Staples in store operations and progressed through positions as a
Rebuyer, Product Manager/Senior Product Manager and Vice President, Global
Product Sourcing.
