American Red Cross Honors United Airlines With Two Humanitarian Awards

Awards Presented for Ongoing Support of Humanitarian Efforts, as well as
                                Tsunami Relief

United Generates Most Mileage and Financial Donations of Any Airline

CHICAGO, July 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In honor of its longstanding
support, as well as United's coordinated efforts to encourage customers to
donate cash and Mileage Plus(R) miles to aid in the Indian Ocean tsunami
relief efforts last December, the American Red Cross presented United Airlines
with two awards: its annual Circle of Humanitarians Award and an award for
United's tsunami relief work.
"We are honored and grateful that United Airlines, its employees and
customers have transformed their care and compassion into relief for tsunami
survivors by making financial contributions and donating Mileage Plus miles to
the American Red Cross," said Kathleen Loehr, Vice President for Strategic
Fundraising for the American Red Cross. "Only with this type of generous
support can we deliver the lifesaving programs and services through our
Tsunami Recovery Program."
"We are delighted to accept these awards on behalf of our customers, who
made generous donations of their own, contributing tens of millions of miles
to our relief fund, as well as our employees, who worked hard to provide
immediate support to the region and contributed miles and funds of their own,"
says United's Senior Vice President of Corporate and Government Affairs
Rosemary Moore. "Our work with the Red Cross exemplifies the importance of
United's partnerships with both local and international organizations that
address the urgent needs of the communities that we serve."
United played a proactive role immediately after the December 26 tsunami
with a special donation of Mileage Plus Charity Miles. In fact, United
customers donated almost 40 million miles in the first week alone and more
than 71 million to date. The link the company posted on united.com has
garnered more than $1 million in donations. United also offered to help
fulfill supply and shipping needs as determined in the region, and facilitated
customers' and employees' donations of cash by awarding 500 bonus miles to
eligible Mileage Plus members who donated $50 or more to the American Red
Cross International Response Fund. One hundred percent of the monies donated
to the fund was allocated to tsunami relief, while ongoing mileage donations
continue to support both domestic and international relief and preparedness
efforts. This year, United has generated the most mileage and financial
donations of any airline and was the only carrier to receive these awards.
