BlueArc Establishes Dedicated Post-Production Practice to Help Entertainment
Companies Produce, Backup and Store Award Winning Footage
SAN DIEGO, July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- To further advance its leadership
position in providing network attached storage (NAS) solutions to the
entertainment industry, BlueArc(TM) Corporation has established a dedicated
post-production practice to serve the specific storage needs of Hollywood's
most innovative special effects and animation houses. In the past year,
companies including NBC Olympics, Charlex, Framestore-CFC, Giant Killer
Robots, The Mill, Rhythm & Hues and Vanguard Animation have adopted BlueArc
SiliconServers.
Rhythm & Hues Studios, which gained top industry recognition for computer
animation and visual effects in films such as "Babe," "Harry Potter,"
"Daredevil," "X-Men 2" and the upcoming "Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat,"
selected BlueArc's SiliconServer for its high performance and scalability.
"The BlueArc SiliconServer storage system is like NAS on steroids as it
delivers a huge boost in speed and has more than tripled the studio's data
throughput," said Mark Brown, vice president of Technology for Rhythm & Hues.
"We've grown our BlueArc NAS devices from two to eight terabytes (TB) since we
first installed the systems, and anticipate adding an additional 40TB in the
next couple of years."
According to Buckley Collum, co-producer for Vanguard Animation, "We were
looking for a proven, responsive, and dependable storage solution, and our
research of NAS systems led us to BlueArc. We were drawn to BlueArc's
assertiveness with regard to their use of the latest technology. Additionally,
with its new Multi-Tiered Storage solution, the company provided us with
storage options for online and nearline data storage, which enabled us to
select a system that fit within our budget."
Using a BlueArc SiliconServer, production artists can create and save
high-resolution images directly to the server without needing to upload or
download images to their desktops, saving valuable time. Telecine and film
scanning, digital disk recording, editing and compositing, 3D paint and high-
resolution film playback are only a few of the applications where the
SiliconServer dramatically impacts performance.
"BlueArc's post-production practice is focused on helping companies reduce
file retrieval and rendering times, and improve version control over hundreds
of images through the implementation of high performance, modular and fully
scalable NAS systems," said Chuck Joseph, executive vice president of
Marketing and Business Development for BlueArc. "BlueArc's SiliconServer
family of products, which includes the new Multi-Tiered Storage solution
introduced last quarter, is ideal for applications that require high data
throughput, low latency and large storage capacities like the creation of
high-resolution video and film images."
