BlackBall(R) Launches BlackMagic(TM) at SIGGRAPH; Personal Edition Speeds Rich Media File Storage and Retrieval for Truly Automated Digital Asset Storage Management

BlackBall(R) Unveils Rich Media Storage Management Product That Brings
Web-Style Searching to Local and Network Storage Devices

    SAN DIEGO, July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- BlackBall(R) Inc., a leading provider
of storage management solutions for rich media files, today announced
BlackBall(R) BlackMagic(TM) personal edition, a product utilizing RMFS(TM)
(Rich Media File System) to provide the first product in the next-generation
of storage management solutions. Without any need for costly database licenses
or database administration to deploy or function, BlackBall BlackMagic is easy
and cost effective to install and administer. With just one simple
installation, BlackMagic is ready for use, without any necessary day-to-day IT
administration. It will even go seamlessly through corporate firewalls without
any IT staff modifications.
    BlackMagic utilizes patent-pending, real-time on-the-fly descriptive
metadata indexing technology, enabling users to perform Web-style searches on
local and network storage devices to retrieve the right rich media files,
every time. Unlike a traditional DAM systems or file systems, BlackMagic is
content aware and features built in metadata support so that separate database
tracking and querying of rich media file metadata is not required. Users
simply attach keywords and description indexing terms directly into the file
system so that their rich media files may be quickly retrieved and
meaningfully repurposed. The new storage solution also ensures data integrity
and increases the performance and ease of rich media file manipulation and
saves -- all without costly database licenses, database administrator
involvement, or resource intensive SQL index and re-index commands.
"For decades storage system interfaces have been based on antiquated file
system designs that store text and binary data files by providing simple open,
read, seek, write and close commands," said Bob Brown, president and CEO,
BlackBall Inc. "The problem is rich media files consume massive amounts of
storage space, and are now commonplace. BlackMagic uses our RMFS(TM) platform
to provide a complete data input/output interface in the file system API that
is specifically designed towards the serious demands that rich media files
place on storage interfaces."
BlackMagic integrates with users' existing platforms, tools, and networks,
as well as their current workflow. On Microsoft Windows desktops, it simply
extends the Windows Explorer and file open/save dialogs a user is accustomed
to using with extended web-style searching on rich media content. A convenient
Web-browser-based user interface allows users to access the BlackMagic RMFS
repository at any time and from any place.
The BlackMagic TimeTraveler(TM) version manager provides complete file and
system rollback capabilities to rich media file states at virtually any point
in time. Working to optimize network bandwidth and storage hardware, the
underlying RMFS reduces multiple work files to one file name with multiple
deltas. This eliminates the risk of data loss and enables the easy
manipulation of even the largest rich media files. The result is much faster
recalls and saves and a significant reduction in required storage space.
The BlackMagic KrystalBall(TM) systems administration interface enables
users to get unbelievable visibility into the activity of the storage system.
KrystalBall is a portal management interface for full back-end systems
administration that allows management and reporting on every aspect of the
system. The usage tracking feature enables the system to be secure and enables
accountability on users and on who is reading or writing to a file, what they
are doing to it, and providing each with identification to ensure uniqueness
and security. This allows the history of a file to be tracked, including
detailed information about file accesses and activities such as: creation
information; edits and update information; and reader's access information.
KrystalClear(TM) is the transparent, embrace-and-extend media player that
allow RMFS rich media files to be delivered and viewed or played to the user
through standard desktop interfaces such as: Internet Explorer; File Explorer;
and Open Dialog boxes. This allows a user to see a video being played through
their standard windows file explorer interface or internet browsers. This
ensures playback to devices that media players are not able to run on such as
a cellular telephone or certain PDA's. This is the final piece of BlackMagic
that enables the only true complete end-to-end Digital Asset Management
delivery solution.
