LAS VEGAS, July 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- On July 27, 2004, Jeffrey W.
Shaw, 45, was elected to the Board of Directors of Southwest Gas Corporation
(NYSE: SWX), following his recent promotion to Chief Executive Officer of the
company. As a director, he will serve on the executive committee of the
Board. Mr. Shaw's election increases the number of directors from eleven to
twelve. The position of Chairman of the Board remains filled with an
independent director, consistent with the Company's long-standing practice and
sound corporate governance principles.
Mr. Shaw joined Southwest Gas in 1988 as Director of Internal Audit and
was promoted to Controller and Chief Accounting Officer in 1991, Vice
President/Controller and Chief Accounting Officer in 1993, Vice President and
Treasurer in 1994, Senior Vice President/Finance and Treasurer in 2000, Senior
Vice President/Gas Resources and Pricing in 2002, President in 2003 and Chief
Executive Officer on June 1, 2004. Mr. Shaw received a BS in accounting from
the University of Utah in 1983 and worked for Arthur Andersen & Co., in its
Dallas and Las Vegas offices prior to joining Southwest Gas. He is a member
of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Nevada Society
of CPAs, the Leadership Las Vegas Alumni Association, serves on the Board of
the American Gas Association and is active with the Boy Scouts of America.
