Sanders Named Terra's Vice President, Manufacturing

    SIOUX CITY, Iowa, July 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Terra Industries Inc.
(NYSE: TRA) announces the promotion of Richard Sanders Jr. (age 46) to Vice
President, Manufacturing. Sanders is responsible for manufacturing operations
at the company's 10 production facilities in North America and the United
Kingdom. Sanders fills the position vacated by retiring Senior Vice President,
Manufacturing, Steven Savage.

Terra President and CEO Michael Bennett. "The experience Richard Sanders has
gained in his long career as a plant manager should serve him well as he leads
our manufacturing organization in challenging times. I'm confident in
Richard's ability to continue and refine the strong culture emphasizing
safety, environmental responsibility, cost effectiveness and reliability in
our manufacturing facilities that Steve has helped build here at Terra."
    Sanders earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Louisiana State
University in Baton Rouge in 1980. He was a Production Engineer for Agrico in
Donaldsonville, La., for five years, then moved into management positions in
the company's nitrogen and phosphate operations. In 1993, Sanders became Plant
Manager at the Beaumont, Texas, methanol manufacturing facility. Since 1995,
he has been Plant Manager of Terra's Verdigris, Okla., nitrogen manufacturing
facility.
    Sanders, his wife Debbie and their son Peyton (7), live in Verdigris.
