U.S. Navy, Raytheon and Key Suppliers Successfully Conclude Major DD(X) Design Review

    TEWKSBURY, Mass., July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Navy's DD(X) next-
generation destroyer program passed a critical milestone on July 25 with the
successful completion of an intensive, two-day System Requirements Review
(SRR) by the U.S. Navy. The SRR was led by Raytheon Integrated Defense
Systems, which has DD(X) National Team responsibility for the ship's
electronic and weapon systems integration.
    According to Jack Cronin, Raytheon vice president of DD(X), "With the
satisfactory conclusion of the SRR, the DD(X) National Team has passed the
first major systems engineering milestone for the DD(X) program. We are
delighted to report that the U.S. Navy is in concurrence that the DD(X)
development team has properly defined system-level requirements for the Navy's
next-generation surface combatant, moving us another important step closer to
making the transformational DD(X) vision a reality."
    During the SRR, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems and program prime
Northrop Grumman Ship Systems hosted a U.S. Navy team representing PMS-500
(Surface Ships), PMS-IWS (Integrated Weapon Systems), NSWC (Navy Surface
Warfare Center facilities: Dahlgren, Panama City, and Carderock), JHAPL (Johns
Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory), and Space and Naval Warfare Systems
Command (San Diego).
    Besides Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems and Northrop Grumman Ship
Systems, participating contractors included Newport News Shipyard, Lockheed
Martin, General Dynamics, Bath Iron Works, United Defense Limited Partnership
(UDLP), and Boeing.
