Piranha Introduces 'Real-Time' Encoding Of Videos at Full Frame Rates
And Dramatically Reduced File Sizes
DALLAS, Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Piranha, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BYTE),
an innovator in data compression solutions, announced today its streaming
media technology, Piranha Stream(TM), featuring real time, full-frame rate
encoding of streaming video files with dramatic file size reductions when
compared to the three streaming video industry leaders -- QuickTime(TM), Real
Video(TM) and Windows Media Player(TM), all while maintaining comparable image
quality. Piranha's introductory streaming video demonstration is available at
http://www.piranha.com/stream_demo.htm .
"For the past several weeks we have announced that Piranha would be
unveiling a revolutionary streaming video technology on August 1st," Edward W.
Sample, Piranha's chief executive officer explains. "I am extremely happy to
present the on-time delivery of this extraordinary product, Piranha
Stream(TM)."
"Piranha's web site demonstration is very simple," states Nate McClintock,
president and chief operating officer of Zideo.com, a wholly-owned subsidiary
of Piranha, Inc., that directs sales and marketing of Piranha products to the
Internet and entertainment industries. "Piranha Stream(TM) took the three
minute and fifty-three second music video entitled, "The Mighty" by Sting,
compressed it in real time to a video file size of only 11.1 megabytes. For
benchmark purposes, we established the following criteria: Real time encoding;
frame rate -- 24 frames per second (film frame rate) or 30 frames per second
(video frame rate); frame sizes 320 pixels x 240 pixels and greater; image
quality, visually comparable quality to industry leaders. Today's
announcement is just the tip of the iceberg."
As an example of the significance of Piranha's real-time encoding
breakthrough the same three minute and fifty-three second music video took 84
minutes to encode using QuickTime(TM) with the Sorenson(TM) video codec.
