VIENNA, Va., Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- GRC International (GRCI), an AT&T
company that provides advanced technical and professional services, has been
awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Justice to develop the National
Victim of Crime Notification System (VNS). When fully implemented, the VNS
will allow crime victims who are registered with the Department of Justice to
be automatically notified upon a change of the case status from arrest through
incarceration and release.
According to GRCI Executive Vice President and COO Michael Stolarik,
"GRCI's expertise in data integration, system analysis and integration, and
web-based technologies was instrumental in garnering this win. This is a
significant opportunity for GRCI that opens new markets beyond the company's
traditional focus on the military and Department of Defense. We look forward
to long, rewarding and growing relationships with a new set of clients in the
federal civil marketplace."
The United States Attorneys Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation,
and the Bureau of Prisons will be the first users of the system. Other
government agencies may be added at a later date. As delivered, the VNS system
will include a web-based front-end for case entry and reporting; a centralized
communication center to provide case information and automated notification to
crime victims by letter, email, fax, or pager; and telephones with interactive
voice response capabilities. GRCI will also supply training, help desk
support, system maintenance, communication center operation, and system
enhancements.
Appris, Inc., the nation's leading provider of automated victim
notification applications (formerly known as The VINE Company), will support
GRCI in this project. Appris developed the fundamental VNS technology that
provides victims with information and automated notification. Appris's VINE
(Victim Information and Notification Everyday) software supports more than 750
communities in 35 states and Canada. Litton PRC, HW&W Inc., and National
Computer Systems (NCS) Corp. will assist GRCI with hardware maintenance,
quality assurance, and training, respectively.
