Another Vertically Integrated Product from Mallinckrodt
ST. LOUIS, Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Mallinckrodt Inc. (NYSE: MKG) announced
today that it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval to
market a new strength of hydrocodone bitartrate and acetaminophen tablets.
The new strength, 10/325 mg, will be manufactured at Mallinckrodt's
Hobart, New York, facility.
Mallinckrodt manufactures one of the most complete lines of hydrocodone
bitartrate and acetaminophen (HB/APAP) products on the market today. "This
product is another example of our continued commitment to vertical
integration," said Vince Kaiman, vice president and general manager, Dosage
Products.
HB/APAP tablets are indicated for the relief of moderate to moderately
severe pain. The usual dosage is one tablet every four to six hours, as
needed for pain. The market for the 10/325 mg strength of HB/APAP is
projected to reach nearly $60 million in 2000.
The company's Pharmaceutical Group is a basic supplier of raw material, or
bulk pharmaceuticals, as well as a manufacturer of a growing line of generic
form dosage products.
Its bulk pharmaceutical product lines include acetaminophen, the active
ingredient in many over-the-counter pain medications; and natural narcotics,
or opiates, such as codeine phosphate, morphine sulfate, hydrocodone and
oxycodone. Generic versions of dosage products include combinations of
oxycodone or hydrocodone and acetaminophen.
