Brennan had been President, Latin America and Asia-Pacific since 1998.
He led that region to four years of year-over-year operating profit growth,
including business turnarounds in markets that had experienced downturns.
He joined RDA in 1990 as Publishing Director for the Special Interest
Magazine Group. He went on to hold positions in magazine publishing and the
Books & Home Entertainment division, Reader's Digest USA and Reader's
Digest Europe. In 1997 he was named Vice President, Developing Markets,
with responsibility for the Asia, Latin America and Central and Eastern
European regions.
"I am delighted to appoint Mike Brennan to his second tour of duty in
Europe, where he worked in headquarters in the mid-1990s and played a role
in RDA's first wave of expansion into the Central European markets," Berner
said. "Mike is a highly dedicated executive who focuses on improving
results, as he demonstrated in Asia and Latin America. We look to him to
stimulate growth in our traditional European markets while continuing our
program of expansion into new markets."
RDA has opened businesses in 10 new countries during the past four
years and is currently market-testing in preparation for further new-market
launches.
In becoming CEO of Direct Holdings Worldwide, Brennan will oversee the
global marketing activities of the Time Life business. Direct Holdings
Worldwide became part of the company in connection with the acquisition of
RDA by a group of investors headed by Ripplewood Holdings, L.L.C. in March
2007.
The company also announced the appointments of Paul Heath as President,
Reader's Digest Asia Pacific, and Andrea Martin, President, Reader's Digest
Canada and Latin America regions. The moves are part of a restructuring of
RDA's international divisions to more directly link the regional business
with global headquarters. As previously announced, RDA eliminated the
position of President, RD International.
The Reader's Digest Association, Inc. is a global publisher and direct
marketer of books, magazines, music collections and video with customers in
more than 70 countries. The company publishes 77 magazines, including 50
local-country editions of its flagship, Reader's Digest, the world's most
widely read magazine. RDA's headquarters are located near Pleasantville,
