MATTHEWS, N.C., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Family Dollar Stores,
Inc. (NYSE: FDO), the fast growing North Carolina-based discount store chain,
reports opening 44 stores during the four-week period ended July 31, 2004.
With these additional stores, as of July 31, 2004, the Company operated 5,358
stores.
The 44 newest store locations are in the following states and the District
of Columbia: 6 in Florida; 5 in Texas; 4 each in Illinois, Michigan, New
Mexico and Ohio; 2 each in Arizona, Colorado, and New York; 1 each in Alabama,
District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania, South
Carolina, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The Company also confirmed its previously announced plan to open about 500
stores during the fiscal year ending August 28, 2004, including about 109
stores planned to open in the four weeks ending August 28, 2004.
Family Dollar Stores, Inc. operates stores in 44 states and the District
of Columbia ranging as far northwest as Idaho, northeast to Maine, southeast
to Florida, and southwest to Arizona.
