NEW YORK, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Merrill Lynch Television said today that
it will provide daily financial analysis and commentary in streaming video to
Medialink.com, the online news media portal announced last month by Medialink
Worldwide, Inc. (Nasdaq: MDLK).
Merrill Lynch Television (MLT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Merrill Lynch
(NYSE: MER) that works in partnership with the firm's Video Network, produces
the Merrill Lynch Global Investor Network(SM), a streaming video online
service. MLT also co-produces the Merrill Lynch World Business Report, a
daily business feed that is co-produced and distributed by Associated Press
Television to television newsrooms around the world. Both the network and
the daily business report draw upon Merrill Lynch's award-winning Global
Securities and Research and Economics Group for a large portion of their
content.
MLT will provide elements of the Global Investor Network and segments from
the World Business Report to Medialink.com during the site's test phase with
end-user focus groups starting later this summer. MLT will occupy a premiere
position on the site when it is fully operational.
Medialink.com will be launched officially in the United States and the
United Kingdom in the fall. It will distribute press releases, streaming
audio and video, live webcasts, photographs, corporate graphics and logos,
financial information and other content required by the more than 6,000 online
news sites.
The Merrill Lynch Global Investor Network(SM) is the first daily use of
technology by a financial services company that combines two dynamic media:
video and the Internet. This exclusive Internet "webcast" features timely
newsmaking video reports from Merrill Lynch analysts and economists around the
world.
"Medialink is the global leader in the production and dissemination of
broadcast business and public relations content to news media," said Fred
Yager, Director, Merrill Lynch Global Broadcast Services. "Medialink.com is
the ideal vehicle for extending our own electronic financial and economic
information to a new generation of online news sites, and we are delighted to
be an integral part of its development."
Nick Peters, Medialink Senior Vice President who is driving development of
the site, said, "Over the years, we have worked closely with Merrill Lynch in
reaching television and radio, particularly the weekly production and
distribution of their 'Money Sense' and 'Business Sense' audio reports to
radio stations nationwide. We are delighted that this premier financial
services firm has committed to expanding the relationship to include providing
multimedia financial analysis and commentary to online news media via
Medialink.com."
The new Medialink.com service will be provided to communications
departments of corporations, public relations and investor relations agencies,
as well as to publicists in industries as varied as entertainment and high
technology. The service is intended to appeal to a large news universe of
potential clients because it will add business-to-business channels to
Medialink's existing strength in business-to-consumer communications.
Medialink, founded in 1986 to distribute video news on behalf of corporate
clients and other organizations to television stations, has delivered more
than 16,000 individual news stories to television, radio, Internet and print
news media around the world. The Medialink.com vertical portal is the
company's next generation service: Internet-based delivery of multimedia
content to multimedia news sites.
Medialink, which was named to Business Week magazine's list of the 1999
"Hot Growth Companies," is the world leader in providing communications
solutions to corporations through television, radio and the Internet. It
provides traditional broadcast production and distribution services for its
clients to thousands of television and radio stations and Internet news sites,
as well as streaming media services to computer desktops worldwide.
