Although the number of fans is limited, the giveaway is designed to
provide some relief during the hottest of days to help those without air
conditioning or fans. PECO urges all customers to watch those most vulnerable
to heat related stress, especially the elderly, the very young, and pets.
During the warm weather, all PECO customers are encouraged to take steps
to use energy more efficiently, which may help reduce their summer cooling
costs. The following quick and easy steps can help customers reduce their
energy usage by 10 percent or more:
* Turn off unnecessary lights.
* Close blinds, shades and drapes to reduce the amount of sunlight
entering your home through windows or glass doors.
* Use room fans, ceiling fans and attic whole-house fans to circulate
air.
* Avoid using home appliances like dishwashers and clothes dryers during
peak daylight hours. These appliances generate heat and add humidity to
homes. Use these appliances during the early morning or late evening
when it's generally cooler.
* Keep your thermostat set at a constant, comfortable level (76-78
degrees during days with temperatures above 90 degrees).
With warmer weather this summer and average electric usage up, consumers
who may be having trouble meeting their monthly energy costs are encouraged to
call PECO immediately at 1-800-494-4000. In addition to programs designed for
low and fixed income customers, PECO offers budget billing and other payment
options for all customers. Budget billing helps reduce the effects of severe
weather on bills by calculating a customer's annual usage and dividing it into
12 payments - allowing the customer to pay the same amount each month.

for Exelon. Founded in 1881, PECO is one of the Greater Philadelphia Region's
