NEW YORK, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Avon Products, Inc. (NYSE: AVP) today
announced that Harriet Edelman has been promoted to senior vice president,
global operations, reporting to Charles R. Perrin, chief executive officer.
In her new position, Ms. Edelman will be responsible for the reengineering
of Avon's global supply chain, including sourcing, manufacturing, customer
service and distribution. She also will continue to lead Avon's U.S.
Information Technology group.
The company's supply chain initiatives are an important component of its
business process redesign (BPR) strategy announced in October 1997. Avon
expects BPR to reduce costs by $400 million annually by the year 2000, freeing
resources for reinvestment in customer growth, and improving the company's
overall profitability.
"With operations in 45 countries, leveraging opportunities on a global
scale is a top priority," said Mr. Perrin. "Harriet's proven leadership and
experience will enable Avon to rapidly implement global approaches to further
strengthen our competitive position."
Since 1995, Ms. Edelman, age 42, has been group vice president of U.S.
Operations and took on expanded responsibilities to include global support
during 1997. She headed the northeast sales region for Avon U.S. and has held
executive positions in product development, distribution, customer service and
information technology.
Ms. Edelman is vice president of the board of directors for the Police
Athletic League and a member of the board of directors of Junior Achievement.
She holds an M.B.A. in marketing from Fordham University in New York
