reports opening 51 stores during the four-week period ended August 2, 2003.
With these additional stores, as of August 2, 2003, the Company operated
4,944 stores.
The 51 newest store locations are in the following states: 10 in Texas; 5
each in Ohio and Wisconsin; 3 each in Florida and New York; 2 each in Georgia,
Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania; 1
each in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts,
Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Utah.
Family Dollar Stores, Inc. now operates stores in 43 states ranging as far
northwest as North Dakota, northeast to Maine, southeast to Florida, and
southwest to Arizona.
