DETROIT, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) released
today additional information about its 2002 Series 60 engine program.
Recent reports in the press about the implementation of the October 1
change in emissions standards have mischaracterized DDC's technological
readiness. DDC will certify the Series 60 engine to comply with the new
emissions standards. DDC again today confirms its commitment to providing
engines that meet the new requirements, without penalties or aftertreatment
devices.
DDC continues to support concerns voiced by its customers, the American
Trucking Association, and others, that the trucking industry, and the economy
in general, would be well-served by a longer period of fleet test time.
Whether any changes to the October 1 implementation date are forthcoming or
not, DDC wants to reassure its customers of its long-term commitment to them
and its near-term commitment to providing certified engines in October 2002.
DDC's technological development of the 2002 Series 60 is on course and its
market leading engines will be certified to comply with the new standards.
As previously announced, DDC will initially make approximately 95% of its
current ratings available in October 2002. As is its customary practice, DDC
will submit applications for 2002 emissions certification to the EPA
approximately 30-60 days in advance of scheduled production.
