COMMACK, N.Y., Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hamlet Cup, the men's
professional tennis tournament held on Long Island, is proud to announce today
it has entered into a title sponsorship agreement with TD Waterhouse Group,
Inc. The four-year deal begins with the 2002 event, held August 17-25 at the
Hamlet Golf and Country Club in Commack. This year's tournament, held the week
before the US Open, will now be called the TD Waterhouse Cup.
The tournament, presented by Roslyn Savings Bank, has become one of the
players' favorite events on the ATP over the last 21 years.
The title sponsorship includes signage on all tennis grounds, backwall
signage on all championship courts, television exposure on Fox Sports Net's
coverage of the event, a TD Waterhouse exhibition area, sky suites and
sponsorship of a USTA grass roots competition called the "TD Waterhouse Mixed
Doubles Tennis Challenge". This year-round program for recreational players
will be played on the East Coast and will culminate at the TD Waterhouse Cup.
This year's tournament has expanded from 32 to a 48-player main field.
Past TD Waterhouse Cup champions are among the game's elite -- past and
present -- including Ivan Lendl, Stefan Edberg, Andre Agassi and Patrick
Rafter. Thirteen-time Grand Slam champion Pete Sampras, third-ranked and
defending champion Tommy Haas and two-time French Open finalist Alex Corretja
are just a few who have entered this year's event.
"We're excited to add the TD Waterhouse Cup to our sports marketing
platform. This sponsorship is a great way to expose tennis fans, a group that
fits our key demographics, to the full range of financial services that TD
Waterhouse offers. Between amateurs competing in the TD Waterhouse Mixed
Doubles Tennis Challenge, fans at the TD Waterhouse Cup and those watching at
home, this sponsorship will help us reach tennis fans that want to take
control of their investments," said Frank Petrilli, Chief Executive Officer of
TD Waterhouse.
"We're looking forward to helping this event grow in coming years, and in
doing so, also supporting local charitable organizations."
"Today is a great day for tennis on the East Coast, particularly Long
Island," said Elliot Monter, president of the Holiday Organization, Inc.,
owner of the TD Waterhouse Cup. "We are honored to have a title sponsor as
prestigious as TD Waterhouse. Together this partnership will take this event
to an even greater level."
