WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Aug. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Power
Conversion (Nasdaq: APCC) (APC), a leading global provider of high
availability systems for network-critical physical infrastructure (NCPI),
today announced that two new industry partners recently joined APC's BLADE
READY(TM) program (http://www.BladeReady.com) to help enterprises plan and
implement high density applications such as blade servers. Enterprise
companies can now tap the expertise offered by ClearCube Technology, a
global leader in PC blade solutions, and Siemon, a leading manufacturer of

The BLADE READY program unites APC with vendors of complementary
network-critical physical infrastructure (NCPI) technologies to deliver
comprehensive interoperable products, solutions, and services for blade
NCPI environments. Together, BLADE READY members help enterprises assess,
design, procure, stage, implement and interconnect blade servers and
related equipment. Members in this program include a group of strategic,
best-in-class hardware and software vendors that help enable operational
excellence and unsurpassed compatibility with blade network environments.
"Today's blade server technology is driving densities up to 30kW per
rack when fully populated, and this trend creates a number of challenges
that CIOs and their staff need help addressing," said Aaron Davis, APC's
vice president of worldwide marketing and communications. "The BLADE READY
program offers these individuals an easy way to obtain useful information
that can help them address the challenges involved with deploying blades.
The program assesses an organization's readiness to implement a blade
environment and, if ready, can help develop a roadmap for a smooth
transition to blades resulting in operational excellence in a firm's blade
environment."
According to industry research firm Gartner, Inc., worldwide blade
server annual shipments are expected to reach 1.2 million by 2009. Gartner
expects annual shipments of all servers to reach seven million by 2009.* To
take advantage of the technology trend, the BLADE READY program offers a
single stop for a wide variety of resources including APC's Blade Readiness
Assessment Service, which is a first step in understanding the right
approach to these challenges. Also available are white papers, build out
guides, total cost of ownership (TCO) planning guides, and more.
Each BLADE READY partner brings a clear expertise in how to adopt blade
computing environments to the program. For example, ClearCube is a pioneer
and market leader in centralized computing solutions offering both hardware
and software for blade deployments, and helps enterprises relocate desktop
PCs to centralized blade environments. Siemon is a global leader in network
cabling and structured cabling solutions, with expertise in bandwidth
planning and related infrastructure design. APC sets the standard for power
backup and distribution, innovative cooling solutions, and related NCPI
solutions such as its award-winning InfraStruXure(R) architecture. Through
its NetBotz(R) division, APC also offers IT professionals a suite of
security management products such as video surveillance and an array of
environmental sensors that identify and resolve events before they result
in downtime.
"Data centers are the technology heart of a company, controlling the
flow of information that is crucial to a company's success," said Carl
Boisvert, president and CEO of ClearCube Technology. "The BLADE READY
program ensures that experts from all fields are on hand to help maintain
and deploy the data center from concept to the functioning IT command
center of the enterprise."
"Siemon's long history of developing structured cabling has always
included close ties to active electronics companies," said Carrie Higbie,
global network applications market manager for Siemon and president of the
Blade Systems Alliance. "Interoperability with the equipment supported by
our cabling systems is key, and Siemon has applied this collaborative model
to its blade-targeted products. These relationships have allowed us to
create products specifically suited to the blade and data center
environment, such as our BladePatch high-density patchcords, and full
end-to-end 10Gb/s cabling systems in UTP, F/UTP (screened) and S/FTP
(fully-shielded) copper configurations," Higbie added. "Our expertise in
this area also has spawned a number of services, including full network
infrastructure audits with abandoned cable assessments, data center design
services and our global network of Siemon-trained and certified installers,
designers and consultants. Working with companies in the BLADE READY
program was a natural extension of our efforts."
