Devon Energy Names William F. Whitsitt Senior Vice President, Public Affairs

    OKLAHOMA CITY, Aug. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Devon Energy
Corporation (NYSE: DVN) announced today that William F. Whitsitt has been
appointed to the position of senior vice president, public affairs. In this
newly created executive position, Mr. Whitsitt will be responsible for the
governmental relations, public relations and communications efforts for the
company.

    Mr. Whitsitt has been engaged in his own consulting practice in
Washington, D.C. since 1997, providing public affairs and policy advice,
issue management and public and governmental affairs representation to a
broad range of clients. Prior to forming his consulting business, he was
director, governmental affairs for one of the world's largest law firms.

    Mr. Whitsitt has also held the position of vice president of worldwide
marketing and public affairs for Oryx Energy Company and has served as
chief of staff to a U.S. Senator and as a legislative assistant in the
Senate and House of Representatives. Mr. Whitsitt holds a doctoral degree
in Public Administration from George Washington University.

    Mr. Whitsitt is president of the American Exploration & Production
Council, a trade association representing the largest U.S. independent oil
and gas producers. AXPC is currently undertaking a search for a new
president.
