TeraLogic, Inc. Offering HAVi-based Development Tools to Enable The Digital Home

TeraLogic Partners With VividLogic, Inc., Adding HAVi-Compliant Software
                             To TeraLogic Platform

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- TeraLogic, Inc., a leading
provider of technology that enables the digital home, today announced a
partnership with VividLogic, Inc. to create a robust, comprehensive and
off-the-shelf development platform compliant with the HAVi standard. The HAVi
standard is a home networking software specification designed to allow
seamless interoperability among home entertainment products. With the enhanced
platform, manufacturers will be able to create digital audio/visual devices
for consumers that immediately interoperate and have shared functionality,
regardless of the manufacturer's brand.
"The future of consumer electronics will be founded on the concept of the
networked home," said Dr. Peng Ang, TeraLogic's chairman and CEO. "Today, we
are putting powerful tools in the hands of developers that will bring
multi-purpose, integrated digital devices to the consumer market faster and
more cheaply than ever before."
In December 1999, eight leading global consumer electronics, software,
semi-conductor and computer manufacturers, including Sony, Thomson Multimedia
and Toshiba, created the HAVi Organization to lay the groundwork for the
future of digital devices. They realized the next step in the digital
electronics revolution would come in the form of home entertainment devices
actively communicating with each other, sharing data and functionality. The
HAVi standard will allow consumers -- with no extra equipment or technical
skills -- to plug a new audio/visual appliance in and it will automatically
begin networking with any other HAVi-compliant device in the home. For
example, an entire home entertainment center (TV, DVD player, VCR, stereo,
speakers, CD player and even the family PC) could be linked and controlled
from one remote control, with the menu displayed on the TV or PC.
"TeraLogic's partnership with VividLogic means a significant boost up for
the HAVi-standard's position in the home electronics industry," said
Shiva Patibanda, chief executive officer of VividLogic. "This is a combination
of two leading edge companies dedicated to enabling a quantum leap in the
capabilities of digital devices."
TeraLogic and VividLogic are active members of the HAVi Organization and
are committed to a universal standard for digital home products. The
partnership adds even greater functionality and flexibility to TeraLogic's
Cougar digital television development platform, which will be used by consumer
electronics end-manufacturers to create devices that will further establish
HAVi capable devices in the consumer marketplace.
VividLogic will deliver its FireBus(TM) and HAVi interoperable software
package software on TeraLogic's Cougar development platform. From the
beginning, TeraLogic's Cougar DTV platform has been used by digital television
product designers to create new and powerful products for the consumer.
Powered by TeraLogic's TL850 IC, optimized to power high quality video and
graphics signals in any standard format, the Cougar platform significantly
reduces the time and costs for companies to take their products from research
to delivery.
