CHICAGO, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- USN Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: USNC)
today announced that it will now resell Ameritech (NYSE: AIT) cellular
services throughout Ameritech's wireless territories. The Ameritech agreement
will provide USN with the ability to offer wireless services in Illinois,
Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. USN currently offers wireless services
to its customers in the Northeast and several Mid-Atlantic states.
"This agreement represents a major milestone in USN's strategy of bundling
wireless with local and long-distance services for our customers in the
Midwest and Northeast," said J. Thomas Elliott, chairman, president and CEO,
USN Communications. "Cellular is a service often requested by our customers.
With this agreement, we can now offer cellular across nearly all of our
footprint making it a core product offering for USN." Added Elliott, "The
acquisition of Connecticut Telephone provided us with significant wireless
back office capabilities. This product expansion leverages those capabilities
over a wider customer base."
USN's direct sales force will offer cellular service as part of their
"value-added" bundle of services. The company expects to be able to offer
cellular service to Midwest customers within 30 days.
