MIAMI, FL USA
MIAMI, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- As students nationwide gear up to go back
to school, the Burger King/McLamore Foundation's Burger King Scholars Program
is 'fired up' and ready to make thousands of dreams come true. To date, the
Foundation's Burger King Scholars Program has awarded more than $7 million in
scholarships to graduating high school seniors on behalf of Burger King
Corporation and restaurant franchises throughout North America and Puerto
Rico.

Unlike scholarship programs that grant awards to graduates with top
rankings, the Burger King Scholars Program awards $1,000 scholarships to
students that work part time out of financial need, while still maintaining a
2.5 grade point average or better. This year, the program is expected to
award 1,600 scholarships nationwide.
"The cost of higher education is becoming more and more expensive every
year," said Melody Roadman, executive director of the Burger King/McLamore
Foundation. "A majority of students find themselves having to secure
employment before graduation to pay for college tuition and books. Our
scholarship funds facilitate this while encouraging a work ethic long before
graduation."
More than 31,000 high schools throughout North America and Puerto Rico are
sent Burger King Scholars applications each year by the Foundation.
Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, work experience,
financial need, recommendations and participation in community service
programs or academic organizations.
Thanks to the fundraising efforts of Burger King Corporation and
restaurant franchisees, the Foundation has awarded 7,048 scholarships to
students throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada since the
program's inception in 2000. For more information about the program or to
obtain an application, visit http://www.bk.com/bkscholars.
The Burger King/McLamore Foundation is a non-profit public foundation
dedicated to helping build a better future workforce and enhance the image of
the BURGER KING(R) brand at local and national levels by providing educational
opportunities to deserving youth throughout the United States, Canada and
Puerto Rico.
