GSE Power Systems Announces Mecca Asset Purchase

COLUMBIA, Md., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- GSE Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: GSES), a
leading global provider of real time simulation and process control solutions
to the energy, process and manufacturing industries, today announced the
purchase of the proprietary technology and software assets of Mecca
Corporation of Florence, S.C. The assets consist of real-time data
acquisition systems and personnel access/security systems. This purchase
reaffirms the GSE commitment to the power utility client base by expanding the
GSE offering of real-time simulation and data systems.
Specifically, the purchase provides GSE with a new family of products and
services marketable to the existing GSE customer base, while allowing
expansion for new opportunities outside the base utility marketplace. The
real-time data acquisition system is a crucial element in providing Power
Plant Process Computer Systems that monitor the power plant processes, fire
protection, emergency planning and operational performance. The personnel
access/security system contains features for personnel accountability,
intrusion detection, and interfaces to a variety of "off the shelf" field
input devices. The software utilizes the industry leading operating systems
of Windows NT and QNX and has been installed at certain power utilities in the
United States.
"This purchase is a good fit for GSE based upon our previous experience in
the simulation of Plant Process Computers," says Jerry Jen, Senior Vice
President of GSE Power Systems. "Over the course of our twenty-five years of
power simulation experience GSE has simulated or stimulated over one hundred
Plant Process Computers. For this reason, our current employees are
knowledgeable in the technology and can immediately contribute to the
marketing and engineering efforts associated with this new business segment."
