Accom Features Universal Format DDR at Siggraph 2001

    MENLO PARK, Calif., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Accom(R)
(OTC Bulletin Board: ACMM), a leader in broadcast and professional video
products, will be exhibiting at Siggraph 2001 to be held at the Los Angeles
Convention Center, Los Angeles, CA, August 14-16 at Booth 1946. Products
being showcased are Accom's WSD(R)/HD (Work Station Disk/High Definition) now
available with Digital Audio and Video Interpolator options, a turnkey
solution supporting Windows Media Encoding of standard and high definition
video formats for the professional marketplace as well as its ever popular
WSD(R)/2Xtreme(TM) Digital Disk Recorder.
WSD/HD, shipping since October 2000 is in use in graphics, animation,
broadcast television production departments and post houses worldwide. WSD/HD
is a high or standard definition, 10-bit uncompressed video, digital disk
recorder that represents a breakthrough in price performance in HD recording
technology. WSD/HD easily transfers video to and from high definition or
standard video tape recorders as well as graphics or animation workstations.
It supports full bandwidth, standard definition serial digital recording and
playback in addition to all of the stand high definition production formats
including 24P -- all uncompressed.
For users involved in post-production editing, WSD/HD with Digital Audio
option provides eight tracks of AES/EBU audio capabilities allowing the user
to do standard digital audio editing as well as multi-track surround sound
production in an already universal (SD/HD) digital disk recorder.
Post-production editors can now edit HD source material that contains both
video and audio giving them faster access than a Video Tape Recorder
environment.

Key Features of Digital Audio Option

    -- 8 mono tracks (4 stereo pairs)
    -- AES/EBU, 24-bit resolution @ 48kHz
    -- (4) XLR inputs
    -- (4) XLR outputs
    -- Handles AC-3 or Dolby-E bit streams
    -- Analog monitoring -- Balanced, line-level on (8)
-- XLRs via breakout cable from high-density connector. 16-bit digital to
       analog conversion.
-- Independent record/edit of each track.

The video interpolator option allows for smooth playback in speeds slower
than one times normal play speed for field-interlaced material. This is an
ideal option for anyone in a post-production environment wanting to do slow
motion replay of video formats that are interlaced Standard Definition or High
Definition formats. The video interpolator processes the video so that when
the operator is playing at speeds less than one times normal play speed, it
will prevent the material from hopping up and down which is what normally
happens with interlaced formats that are played back in slow motion. Image
quality is also drastically improved in slow motion playback.
In the fast paced world of graphics and animation, the WSD/HD plays an
important role. In a typical installation, graphics workstations will be
transferring static images or short animations to and from WSD/HD. Graphics
and effects for HDTV and electronic film often require complex interaction
within a multi-user, collaborative environment. WSD/HD is ideally designed
for integration into multiple workstation installations, albeit system
standardized or a mix of platforms and operating systems, by providing
high-speed access to all users through Accom's unique, browser-based
Net.Panel(TM) interface. WSD/HD uses the NT file system for quick, easy
access via Windows networking. Use QuickTime Player Pro on any network
station to transfer frames in Targa, TIFF, PICT, and many other graphics
formats, or simply render directly to WSD/HD storage disks as a QuickTime
movie.
