First 24" LCD Monitor at SIGGRAPH Booth #1201
LOS ANGELES, SIGGRAPH CONFERENCE, Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ --
Sun Microsystems, Inc. will feature breakthrough products and high-performance
demos targeted for visualization, simulation and digital media markets.
Located in booth #1201, Sun will feature a technology demo of the world's
first 24" flat-panel LCD monitor and will showcase server-based graphics demos
on its new Sun(TM) Fire servers. Sun's booth will also provide Siggraph
attendees with cutting-edge, interactive demos, including those from Pixar,
WeatherOne, Kewazinga and Full Sail, Inc.
Seeing is Believing
Sun pushes the limits of technology design and functionality showing off
the world's first 24" flat-panel LCD monitor featuring extensive multimedia
capabilities, brilliant colors and immaculate clarity. Cutting-edge features
of the new monitor include:
-- 24" Display: As the world's first 24" LCD monitor, it offers a 27" CRT
image size in a compact 3" deep form factor, providing a big screen
display with minimal impact on a user's desktop real estate. It can
easily display two full-size A4 sheets of paper, side by side.
-- DVI Interface: A high quality digital interface, helping to ensure that
full picture fidelity is transferred to the monitor.
-- 2.3 Million pixels at 1920 x 1200 resolution and 170-degree viewing
angle: Ideal for executing finely detailed CAD/CAM or EDA drawings, or
creating extensively layered graphics, the new monitor is designed to
enable the maximum amount of information to be displayed on the screen
and provides full viewing of images when moving off center.
-- Extensive Multimedia Support: The new monitor directly supports not
only high-end workstation interfaces via DVI and analog interfaces, but
also direct interface capabilities for HDTV, DVD, VCR and other
industry standard video sources.
Sun Takes it to the Nth With Multiple Sun(TM) Expert3D Graphics Cards in
Sun Fire Servers
Sun will showcase its Sun Fire server line with technology demos featuring
professional-level graphics. Based on the 64-bit Solaris(TM) Operating
Environment and UltraSPARC(TM) architecture, the new graphics servers are
designed to provide the performance, reliability, scalability and new
functionality necessary for data visualization in high-performance computing
environments. Capable of driving multiple displays and collaborative visual
solutions in a single system, the Sun Expert3D graphics-equipped servers offer
digital media and visualization customers a compelling choice in the high-end
graphics applications arena.
Now That's Entertainment
In addition to its new product demos, Sun's booth will also provide
interactive demos, featuring Pixar's short animation "For the Birds," and
WeatherOne's new weather forecasting application. The booth will also
showcase Kewazinga's cutting-edge synthetic video application, which allows
viewers to navigate around an action scene, such as a golfer swinging in
motion, providing the viewer with a 360-degree experience. Finally, Full Sail
will be showing an interactive, competitive car racing game written entirely
with Java(TM) and Java 3D(TM) technology. Users will drive the cars using
alternative input devices, demonstrating the versatility of the Java 3D API
input model.
