ATLANTA, Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Armin G. Brecher, Chair of the Executive
Committee and the Board of Partners of Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy LLP,
announced today that the Firm's Partners have elected James J. McAlpin, Jr. to
succeed him when his term ends in March 2004. Mr. McAlpin was elected at a
partner's meeting held on Tuesday, August 12 at 5:00 p.m. Mr. McAlpin has
served in a number of leadership positions in the Firm, most recently as the
Chair of the Corporate and Technology Department and as a member of the Firm's
Executive Committee. He joined the Firm in 1985 and was the youngest member
to be elected to the Firm's Board of Partners, the Firm's governing body, in
1997. He previously led the Firm's Business Transactions and Corporate
Finance Practice and has chaired the Firm's Compensation Committee.
After the end of his term, Mr. Brecher will continue in a client relations
role with many of the Firm's most significant clients. In addition to
returning to the active practice of law, Mr. Brecher will serve as Chairman
Emeritus and will continue his leadership of the Firm's civic, pro bono and
community activities. His current activities include his leadership roles
with Central Atlanta Progress, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the
American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, the Boys & Girls Clubs of
Atlanta, Board of Visitors of Emory University, and the One Ninety One Club.
McAlpin, 45, is a double graduate from the University of Alabama,
receiving his undergraduate degree in 1981 and his J.D. in 1984. He is
actively involved in the Association for Corporate Growth (and is a past-
President of the Atlanta Chapter), as well as the Atlanta Venture Forum and
various banking associations. He lives in Marietta with his wife, Mary, and
their two children, Sarah and James J., III.
