Eyematic Ships World's First Automated 3D Character Animation System for The Web

Eyematic Xpression Allows Anyone to Easily Create, Animate
                  And Publish Photo-realistic 3D Characters

LOS ANGELES, SIGGRAPH, Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Eyematic Interfaces, Inc.,
an innovator of computer vision and audio analysis technology for 3D animation
and publishing, announced today at SIGGRAPH 2001 the availability of one of
their flagship products, Eyematic Xpression(TM). Xpression eliminates the
tedious and expensive process of creating accurate 3D character animation,
enabling its use in a broad range of applications including corporate
branding, online advertising, customer relations management, news delivery,
site hosts and entertainment-oriented content delivery.
Using either a camcorder or standard video camera attached to a Windows(R)
PC, Eyematic's computer vision software recognizes and tracks human facial
features, creating 3D-animated characters which replicate those movements in
real-time. Human eye, eyebrow, nose, mouth, chin and head movements are
automatically animated without facial markers, motion-capture systems or time-
consuming rendering steps. Audio is also recorded and analyzed to produce
accurate lip and mouth movements, further enhancing realism. Eyematic
Xpression then allows the user to combine these 3D characters with 3D
backgrounds, video clips, audio, still images and interactive triggers to
produce rich Web experiences. Web-delivered 3D animations created with
Xpression require a low-bandwidth, and work with any Internet connection
including standard dial-up modems.
"For the first time, you don't have to be an experienced 3D animator or
use expensive hardware in order to create human-like 3D characters," said
Orang Dialameh, chief executive officer, Eyematic. "3D character animation is
an powerful and effective communications technology previously limited to
large-budget Hollywood movies and scientific research facilities. Eyematic
Xpression now allows anyone to create, animate and publish 3D characters to
the Web."
Eyematic Xpression is built upon Eyematic's patented biometrics and
computer vision software engines and represents more than 20 man-years of
research and development by leading scientists and programmers in the field.
