Sun Microsystems and MultiGen-Paradigm Announce Vega Simulation Software For Solaris Operating Environment

Agreement Unites Top 64-Bit Operating Environment With Leading Simulation
Application to Offer Powerful, Cost-Effective 3D Simulation Platform

LOS ANGELES, SIGGRAPH CONFERENCE, Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Building on its
growing success in the visualization and simulation markets,
Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced with MultiGen-Paradigm,
the leading provider of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software solutions for
the visual simulation industry, plans to make the Vega application available
on Sun's robust Solaris(TM) Operating Environment. By delivering Vega on the
Solaris platform, the agreement will offer military, government and commercial
simulation customers a cost-effective option to deploy on a robust, highly
scalable 3D platform, backed by one of the world's leading vendors for
integrated software and hardware solutions.
The Vega software development environment, an industry-leading application
for realtime visual simulation, enables the efficient development of
comprehensive realtime simulations that give government, military,
manufacturers and researchers an alternative to costly and potentially
dangerous -- decision-making exercises. MultiGen-Paradigm's powerful
application also allows engineers to test designs before deploying them. By
providing Vega on the Solaris platform, users will benefit from the highly
integrated operating environment's scalability, reliability and realtime
performance.
"This agreement with MultiGen-Paradigm ushers in new growth opportunities
for Sun, and we intend to aggressively pursue these markets and help drive
innovation across the simulation sector," said Fred Kohout, director of
marketing for the Technical Market Products Group at Sun Microsystems.
"This relationship allows us to extend our support of the visual
simulation community by offering our cutting-edge performance and realtime 3D
solutions on the Solaris platform," said Sandeep Divekar, president of
MultiGen-Paradigm. "Because of the advances in hardware over the last five
years, we've been able to perpetuate realtime 3D on alternative platforms and
in new areas such as urban simulation and 3D GIS, allowing us to continue to
focus on our core technology while extending the use of realtime 3D
simulation."
MultiGen-Paradigm products are available through MultiGen-Paradigm account
managers and international distributors. Sun Microsystems products are
available worldwide direct from Sun and through Sun's traditional sales
channels.
