LOS ANGELES, Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Medea Corporation, a leading storage
solutions provider to the digital content creation and internet streaming
media markets, will debut four new high-performance RAID storage solutions for
digital content creation (DCC) applications at this year's SIGGRAPH show,
August 14th - 16th in Los Angeles, in Hall G, Booth 629.
The new product demonstrations will focus on VideoRaid RTR(TM) and
VideoRack RTR(TM), with Ultra160 SCSI interfaces, as well as VideoRaid FCR(TM)
and VideoRack FCR(TM), which feature SAN-Ready fibre channel interfaces. The
Medea RTR and FCR arrays are designed for DCC applications such as 2D/3D
animation, compositing, special effects, game development and non-linear video
editing.
"Medea's new RTR and FCR disk arrays provide digital content creators with
performance and functionality that previously required a significant
investment," said Roger S. Mabon, director of marketing for Medea. "The RTR
and FCR families of disk arrays are the first to provide HD compatible data
transfer rates and full RAID protection at prices under $15/GB."
VideoRaid RTR and VideoRack RTR
The RTR family of disk arrays features a high-performance Ultra160 SCSI
interface that enables the desktop models to sustain a data transfer rate of
up to 130 MB/second. The dual-channel, rack mount models sustain over
200 MB/second -- more than enough performance to support 10-bit, 1080i HD
capture and playback.
VideoRaid FCR and VideoRack FCR
The FCR family of disk arrays feature a high-performance SAN-Ready fibre
channel interface that enables the 5-drive desktop units to sustain up to
95 MB/second and the 10-drive, 3U rack mountable models up to 185 MB/second.
Medea FCR disk arrays are the ideal storage solutions for building high
bandwidth, low-cost SANs for DCC workgroups.
In addition to offering industry-leading performance, Medea RTR and FCR
disk arrays also provide RAID data protection. In the unlikely event of a
disk drive failure, the systems will continue to operate with no loss of data
and no degradation in data transfer rate. The ability to operate at full
performance with a "downed drive" enables the user to complete work in
real-time environments without requiring immediate drive replacement.
Additional common features of RTR and FCR disk arrays include:
* Desktop and rack mountable configurations
* Capacities up to 600 GB, scalable to multi-terabyte solutions
* Multi-Stream Technology (MST) for real-time playback of up to three
uncompressed video streams
* Hot swappable disk drive modules
* Removable power supplies and RAID controllers
* Compatibility with Mac, SGI, Sun and Windows-based DCC workstations
