following monthly activity for the period ended July 31, 2002:
* Total trades per day averaged 102,500. This is a 13% increase from
June 2002, and 20% higher than July 2001.
* Total customer assets were $124 billion as of July 31, 2002, down
5% from June 2002 and a 9% decrease from July 2001.
* New accounts opened totaled 34,000. This is a 22% increase from
June 2002 and 2% lower than July 2001.
* Margin loans were $3.0 billion at July 31, 2002, a 12% decrease from a
month earlier and a decrease of 30% from July 31, 2001.
* In the early part of August 2002, the firm has experienced roughly a
20% decrease in trades per day activity from the previous month's
average.
