Renaissance IT Man Becomes Computer Troubleshooter in Fox Valley, WI

FOX VALLEY, Wis., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Chuck Meyer has always been
passionate about computers. It all began when he was introduced to the modest
Timex Sinclair in 1982. It had only 16k of memory, there was no disk drive, he
had to plug his audio cassette player into it to record data, and the TV
doubled as a monitor -- but he was smitten. As the computer rapidly evolved,
Meyer's passion and IT skills have kept pace, suiting him to a T in his new
role as the owner of a Computer Troubleshooters USA franchise.
Based in Fox Valley, Wisconsin, Meyer launched his Computer
Troubleshooters USA franchise in March. The company provides a full range of
computer services, including repair, networking and upgrading -- basically
whatever needs done -- at the customer's location. Meyer serves the Fox Valley
region, including Appleton, Menasha and Neenah.
Meyer loves helping small-business owners. After 19 years in a variety of
IT positions -- including program analyst, consultant, project leader and
senior program analyst -- Meyer became a bit disenfranchised with the lack of
passion among some of his colleagues and underlings. It didn't seem to matter
where he worked, he always found himself ahead of the pack when it came to
zeal for the industry and the job at hand. He worked for a range of
corporations and government agencies, including companies specializing in
insurance, children's clothing, outdoor gear, and lawnmowers/snowblowers. You
name it, he's done it -- and has always savored the varied challenges that
came his way.
"I got into the industry because I love it," he said.
Meyer had always dreamed about owning his own business -- working for
himself, enjoying some degree of flexibility, and being the knight in shining
armor for those facing the horror of computer-gone-wrong nightmares.
He started investigating his options late last year and became intrigued
by Computer Troubleshooters USA. He was particularly struck by CT's
professionalism and stellar reputation, and knew it would be a good fit.
"Chuck Meyer's vast IT experience and his consistent enthusiasm are a lock
for success for his Computer Troubleshooters USA franchise," said Chip Reaves,
national director for Computer Troubleshooters USA.
Meyer quickly adapted to being his own boss and is enjoying a busy end-of-
the-summer. And small-business owners and individuals are relieved to have a
convenient, reliable solution to their computer needs.
Those needs run the gamut, Meyer says. He sees a lot of people who
experience quandaries with Windows; others have hardware dilemmas. A recent
series of severe storms spelled trouble for some -- and a series of phone
calls to Meyer as some lost their power supplies.
Meyer also performs provides healthy doses of what he calls the high-tech
tune-up. Another popular service is installing anti-spy software, which
prevents the secret gathering of your private information -- which websites
you visit, which ads you click on, your name, age, social security number,
credit card number, passwords, email addresses, buying habits and more - that
might be going on by simply visiting a web site.
Computer Troubleshooters USA is the ideal answer for small businesses,
which often can't afford to hire a full-time IT staff person. There were some
22.9 million small businesses in existence in the United States in 2002,
according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. And more than 85 percent
of these companies conduct business over the Internet, making it crucial that
computer systems perform optimally and connectivity is intact.
With a quick phone call, Computer Troubleshooters will show up at your
business or home and quickly tend to your IT needs, allaying your nerves when
your computer is acting up and you're on deadline and potentially losing
business by the minute.
"It may sound corny, but I like it because you make people happy," said
Meyer. "I get to leave people happy."
Australian husband and wife Wilson and Suzanne McOrist, who had previously
owned a 200-franchise business selling bookkeeping software, founded Computer
Troubleshooters in Coffs Harbour on the New South Wales north coast in 1997.
Computer Troubleshooters USA launched in 1999.
The company has more than 200 franchisees worldwide, including more than
100 in the United States. In January 2002 Entrepreneur magazine ranked
Computer Troubleshooters USA the #1 Tech Support franchise. Computer
Troubleshooters USA specializes in providing services to small businesses --
companies with no more than 50 computer systems.
