Willamette Industries to Close Certain Forest Areas Due to High Fire Danger

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Willamette Industries announced
today that its timberlands, in all areas but Clatsop and Tillamook Counties,
are closed to the public until further notice because of high fire danger.
This includes all entry by foot, horse, bicycle, or motor vehicle.
Oregon Department of Forestry Officials indicate due to the large number
of fires in other areas of the state, fire fighting resources have been
stretched thin. "The prudent thing to do is to not take further risks with
our forest resources," said Jim James, general manager of western timberlands
for Willamette Industries.
"We ask the public for cooperation during this difficult fire season.
These closures will be in effect until the weather conditions reduce fire
danger, at which time Willamette Industries land will reopen for public
enjoyment," James said.
Willamette Industries is Oregon's largest private forest landowner with
610,000 acres, stretching from Clatsop to Douglas Counties.
Willamette Industries is an integrated forest products company with
105 plants, located in the U.S., France, Ireland and Mexico. The company owns
1.7 million acres of forestland in the U.S. and manages it sustainably to
produce building materials, composite wood panels, fine paper, office paper
products, corrugated packaging and grocery bags.
