Leading medical diagnostics/research company releases new research-use-only
polyclonal antibody for detection of ovarian cancer
DEDHAM, Mass., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Signet Laboratories, Inc., a
leading medical diagnostics/research company specializing in the development
of monoclonal antibodies and diagnostic assays for cancer, infectious disease,
and neurodegenerative disease, today announced the availability of polyclonal
Human Epididymis Protein 4 (HE4) antibody.
Ovarian cancer is diagnosed in approximately 25,000 American women each
year. Identifying ovarian cancer in early stages is a challenge for
physicians since there is often no clear pattern of symptoms.
When ovarian cancer is diagnosed early, before it spreads outside of the
ovaries, 90% of patients will survive 5 years. Unfortunately, only 24% of
ovarian cancers are caught early. The remaining cases, diagnosed after cancer
has spread beyond the ovary, have a 5 year survival of less than 25%. "There
is compelling evidence that HE4 is a valuable early marker for ovarian
cancer," said Angela Thomas, Immunohistochemistry Product Manager for Signet
Laboratories.
She added, "Signet's polyclonal HE4 offers researchers an effective tool
for ovarian cancer research."
About Signet Laboratories, Inc.
Signet Laboratories, Inc. (Signet, Dedham, MA) is a leading medical
diagnostics/research company specializing in the development of monoclonal
antibodies and diagnostic assays for cancer, infectious disease, and
neurodegenerative disease. Signet was created in 1989 as a commercial spinout
of Johnson & Johnson's Cambridge Research Laboratories, Inc. (CRL, Cambridge,
MA).
The Company was founded to continue the mission originally established at
CRL -- the early detection and recurrence monitoring of patients with cancer
and infectious disease. Signet has developed patented technology for
diagnosis and recurrence monitoring and for risk assessment of asymptomatic
patients in these areas. For more than a decade, the Company has aggressively
maintained licensing and development programs, which are responsible for its
broad patent and intellectual estate.
Signet's core competence and recognized experience in tissue-based
methods, combined with its newly developed patent pending assay technology,
will radically alter the existing biopharma discovery paradigm, significantly
reducing time and cost to market while generating higher revenues from
increased patent life.
