WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Mark Cuban, NBA franchise owner and
digital visionary, will be the keynote speaker at the Online News
Association annual conference Oct. 6-7 at the Capital Hilton in Washington,
D.C.
Cuban cemented his legend early by selling his computer consulting firm
MicroSolutions to CompuServe. A few years later, he sold broadcast.com to
Yahoo! Today, Cuban owns HDNet and the Dallas Mavericks and jointly owns
the nation's largest chain of art-house cinemas. He also is renowned for
blogging about his team, technology and just about anything else. Cuban is
also a majority partner in Sharesleuth.com, a blog aimed at exposing
securities fraud.
Cuban will address what is expected to be the largest assembly of the
Online News Association, with as many as 400 delegates attending the
two-day conference Oct. 6-7.
A recent article in New Yorker called him "The South's New Mouth,"
adding that "rabble-rousing, hard-partying Mark Cuban is the spitting,
high-def image of Ted Turner -- with technology (and Dan Rather) on his
side."
Many other top journalism and Web 2.0 leaders will be on hand to share
insights into commerce, content and convergence, the three tracks on which
the program centers. Representatives from the following media organizations
have confirmed their participation:
* Commerce panels: Consumer Reports, BusinessWeek.com, NYTimes.com,
Forbes.com, Yankee Group, Slate, Gannett, MSN, PaidContent, McClatchy,

ABOUT THE ONA
The Online News Association is an association composed largely of
professional online journalists. The Association has more than 600
professional members, that is, members whose principal livelihood involves
gathering or producing news for digital presentation. The membership
includes news writers, producers, designers, editors, photographers and
others who produce news for the Internet or other digital delivery systems,
as well as academic members and others interested in the development of
online journalism. ONA also, in partnership with USC Annenberg School for
Communication, administers the prestigious Online Journalism Awards.
We believe that the Internet is the most powerful communications medium
to arise since the dawn of television. As the Net becomes a primary source
of news for a growing segment of the world's population, it presents
complex challenges and opportunities for journalists as well as the news
audience.
