SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/-- Unisys Corp., a worldwide
leader in server technology, and The Software Group Limited (TSG), designer
and manufacturer of wide-area networking subsystems since 1982, today
announced that Unisys servers will incorporate TSG's connectivity software.
TSG will provide synchronous communications products from their WanWare(TM)
product line to connect Unisys systems running UnixWare 7 to wide-area
networks with SNA, Frame Relay, or X.25 communications protocols. WanWare SNA
for Unisys servers, workstations, or LAN clients provides IBM connectivity
from Unisys systems to corporate data warehouses. WanWare SNA integrates
device emulation (3270, 5250, RJE), network controller support (PU 2.0,
PU 2. 1, APPN End-Node), programmatic interface libraries (EHLLAPI, CPI-C,
APPC, LUA, etc.), physical link support (SDLC, X.25, Token Ring, Ethernet and
Frame Relay), and network administration utilities in a single package.
Available in traditional and client/server versions, WanWare SNA supports
both subarea (traditional SNA) and advanced peer-to-peer (APPN) networking.
APPN allows SNA routing and node configuration tables to be dynamically
updated, and permits a second (back-up) communications link to be
automatically activated in the event of primary link failure.
Mr. Paul Cross, UNIX Migration Manager of the Unisys Corp. stated that "We
are delighted to have The Software Group's products as our offerings in
synchronous communications to our customers. These products have world wide
presence and have proven themselves the leading technology in this arena."
Mr. Scott Hughes, President of The Software Group Limited, stated that "This
joint announcement represents a major step forward in our strategic business
direction. I know our mutual customers will be extremely well served by this
alliance."
Available immediately, this complete suite of synchronous communications
products for Unisys servers can be obtained from Unisys marketing channels and
from TSG marketing channels worldwide.
As a major participant in the 1996 SCO Enterprise Summit, Unisys
Corporation formed a strategic partnership with SCO and other important UNIX
